Noah and the Flood
Zooom! We have arrived! After a while Adam and Eve's descendants multiplied but so did the sin. Everyone was sinful but one man was righteous in the sight of God. To be righteous means to be right in actions. For example, if we follow God, He will make us righteous and turn our actions into acts of kindness. Noah followed God and talked to Him and always listened to Him no matter what He said. Once, God told Noah that He was going to flood the whole world and that Noah should build a huge boat called an ark to keep himself and his family. This sounded quite odd since Noah lived in a place where there wasn't all lot of rain so to make a giant boat there seemed very peculiar. Still, Noah obeyed God and his family and he started to make the ark. God gave them very specific plans like to use gopher wood to use to build it. Not only was it hard to build such a thing huge thing but to make even harder everyone made fun of them. "You are fools to build a boat in this area where there is little rain and you say that there is going to be a flood. Ridiculous. Hahahaha!" they would say, but Noah and his family took no notice because they were doing God's will. All that matters is that you are doing God's will, not people's will.
After years and years of hard work, and I mean a lot of years (more than a hundred years!) they finally finished the ark. Only one problem, there was no rain! That was because when they finished, God miraculously called two of every animal
(except for some) in the world to come and peacefully enter the ark. Well, except for the sea creatures. They must have had a blast afterward. "Wow! Look! Human cities! And we can swim through it! Awesome!". Even after all the animals came aboard there still was no rain. They had to wait a bit. God even shut the door. Finally, just as God said, the rain poured down and the whole earth was flooded. See, the sea animals did have a blast. The point of the flood was to wash the sinful people and their own sinful ways away and it worked. Noah and his family were the last people on earth. Now, it wasn't like they could get off immediately after evil was washed away since the rain lasted 40 days and 40 nights. And they couldn't get off then because the water stayed for 150 days. So they had to stay for about a year.
Imagine that. Staying in enclosed space for almost year with a whole lot of animals. The animal part may not be bad but feeding them, cleaning after them, and all the chores would have been a pain. Plus, it must have stank since they didn't have air fresheners. Well, at least they never had a shortage of water. Noah released a raven for a sign that it was safe to exit. If the bird didn't come back, that meant it found a comfortable home in a tree on dry land. If it did come back, it meant it couldn't find a place to perch and there was still water. For six days the raven came back meaning there was still water on land. Then he released a dove who came back with an olive branch in it beak. For the last time, Noah released the dove and it didn't come back meaning it had found a new home on dry land. Hooray! No more washing around on this floating zoo! Soon, the ark landed on a mountain which they named Mt Ararat. And even sooner, Noah, his family, and all of the animals walked on dry land. Maybe the birds flew over dry land and found a place to call home just like the doves. Noah and his family made an offering to God. Perhaps the next time this happened, Noah should bring a cartload of air fresheners, Fortunately, that wasn't needed. In the sky was a wonderful bow of color. Do you know what it is? A rainbow! God made a promise to never flood the whole earth again. Praise God! Well, God has helped His people once again. And, look, it is time for us to go to the next story! Goodbye Noah! Goodbye Noah's family! Goodbye animals! On we go! Whooosh!
