Zoom! And we have arrived! But where exactly? And when? Well, we are in the city of Nahor (Ancient Mesopotamia) quite a few years after the birth of Isaac. Now, Isaac is a grown up. Abraham, now much older, was looking for a wife for his son. Abraham is a good father and God has blessed him greatly. He calls in his oldest servant to find a wife for Isaac in his old country among his family. So out he goes and finally he reaches the city of Nahor. He goes to the well outside and prays that God will help him find the right lady to be Isaac's wife. He asked that God would let the girl who got him and his camels some water, that she would be the right wife. Before he had even finished praying, God had already answered his request. A lady named Rebekah came and saw the thirsty travelers and their animals. She herself was going to get some water but God led her to show them His love and kindness, even to strangers. She offered to draw out some water for them and their animals. It was her! God had showed him the right girl!
He gave her some earrings and bracelets and asked her who her family was. She answered his questions and offered him and the caravan to stay at her house. The servant was so happy and praised God. He told her that he would come a little bit. Rebekah ran home to tell her parents about had happened. She also had a brother named Laban (who we will come back to as we go on in the Bible) who when he saw the jewelry and heard what had happened, ran out to the well to find the servant. And when he found him there with the camels and the rest of the group, Laban welcomed him to their house. "31 And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the Lord; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.". When they all arrived, they untied the camels and sent them to eat and they had water to wash the servant and his group's feet. Then, they set out the food, but the servant told them that he would not eat until he told them his job and purpose of being here. He told the family about how he was Abraham's servant, and that God had blessed Abraham greatly. Rebekah's family agreed and stated that she has permission to marry Isaac. After that night of feasting, the servant wanted to return home, but everyone wanted Rebekah to stay for 10 more days. However, the servant really wanted to go back to Abraham after God had answered his prayer. Then, they asked what Rebecca what she wanted, and she chose to go with the servant. After a while they returned home (remember, they were traveling on dirt roads with only animals as transportation so they could only go so fast) and Rebecca and Isaac finally met! They married and started their own family. Isn't that a great story? But remember - this is only the beginning! And we shall keep going! Goodbye for now, Rebecca and Isaac! Whooosh!
